Since 1971 Andrejs Jirgensons has been a member of the LVIPUFDA. He got a degree in economics in 1979. From 1985 to1990 he was a chairman of Jurmalas city Committee.
Since1990, he has been the chairman of LVIPUFDA and a board member of Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia. LVIPUFDA gathers 4000 workers and 172 professional organizations at national and local government bodies, financial institutions and companies, such as the State Social Insurance Agency, the State Employment Agency, the Interior Ministry, the Welfare Ministry, Defence Ministry, prisons, municipalities, financial institutions. LVIPUFDA and other trade unions have concluded 77 collective agreements. In 2008, LVIPUFDA joined the Social Guarantee Fund, which addresses social and physical problems. Already, the fund has benefited of the assistance of more than 300 members. |
